[00:00:01] Welcome to Wednesday One-Shots, the series where we share a bite-sized bonus story with you to help you get through the week. This time around we have a story by a listener named Ravenclaw Girl. I live in a town that's not super small but also not quite a city.
[00:00:29] I live in the busier part of this town. My parents decided to go out for the evening and my sister wasn't home so I was left at the house by myself with our dog.
[00:00:40] I was sitting in the living room watching The Vampire Diaries, as I always do, and I was getting a bit hungry so I got up to make myself a sandwich. We have a dog door for our dog that comes from outside and enters into our living room.
[00:00:54] I heard the dog door flap open and then closed. Without thinking too much of it, I didn't look away from my unmade sandwich. I just figured that it was my dog going outside. Then very quickly after, I heard the doggy door open and close again.
[00:01:13] This was pretty irregular for my dog. This got my attention so I turned around to face the living room. I saw a hand reaching inside of my house through the doggy door. The hand was feeling around the back of the door trying to find the lock.
[00:01:30] I began to panic. I realized that my dog was still in my room. I quietly walked down the hall to my room, making sure to keep my eyes on that doggy door the entire time. I opened my bedroom door and let my dog out.
[00:01:45] I then grabbed my sister's softball bat and sat facing the doggy door. The hand continued to creep its way up under the flap. I quietly stood up, trying my best not to cry or make any noise.
[00:01:59] Then with no warning to the intruder, I swung the bat as hard as I could, smashing into their hand. I heard a yell followed by the sound of footsteps running away. I went back to my room and cried for the rest of the night.
[00:02:13] I never told anyone, not even my sister or my parents. Needless to say, I never called the police either, even though I should have. So to the stupid person that tried to come into my house and do god knows what, you better
[00:02:28] hope that we don't meet, or you won't be walking away this time.
