Wednesday One-Shot: I Went on a Brief Date with a Murderer

[00:00:01] Welcome to Wednesday One Shots, the series where we share a bonus midweek story with you.

[00:00:17] This time we have a story from a listener named Emily.

[00:00:21] In 2015 I moved to a town where I knew nobody.

[00:00:26] But who doesn't love a fresh start right?

[00:00:29] I started working at a factory and made friends quickly.

[00:00:33] I have always been a people person.

[00:00:36] I enjoy new people and new adventures so I put trust in others easily.

[00:00:41] Yeah, dumb I know.

[00:00:43] Well I know now.

[00:00:46] At this factory I didn't work with everyone but those who I worked with worked very close

[00:00:52] with me.

[00:00:53] So I either knew everything about a coworker or absolutely nothing.

[00:00:58] There was no in between.

[00:01:00] After a year of working there, this man who I worked with said he wanted me to

[00:01:05] meet his son who will call CJ.

[00:01:08] My coworker said that his son was being released from prison, claiming that he wasn't in there

[00:01:14] for anything too bad.

[00:01:17] He wasn't sure why CJ was in prison but he said that he thought it was just because

[00:01:22] of a violation of his probation.

[00:01:25] I know I could have probably given CJ's name a quick search on Google but I didn't.

[00:01:32] Don't judge me remember?

[00:01:34] I said I was overly trusting.

[00:01:37] A few weeks had passed and my coworker's son CJ came to work at this factory as well.

[00:01:44] Now I ignored 100% of the red flags.

[00:01:48] CJ walked up to me.

[00:01:50] He was bald, 6'5", and he had a pale tattooed face.

[00:01:56] He said hi as he approached me.

[00:01:58] There was nothing that attracted me to him so I still didn't instigate anything with him.

[00:02:04] Looking back, I think it was because at the time I was very insecure and trying to overcome

[00:02:10] my own emotional shortcomings.

[00:02:13] At this time, I was clean from drugs for about a year or so and I was looking for

[00:02:18] anything to take me out of, well, me.

[00:02:23] A few days had passed and CJ invited me over to the house where he lived with his dad.

[00:02:29] When I got there, they were passing a plate of meth around.

[00:02:34] I was very uncomfortable and had to find a fast way out.

[00:02:38] Luckily, I was able to leave within a few minutes.

[00:02:42] CJ would get high and text me novels and he would do this 24-7.

[00:02:48] I quickly realized I was just a ride for this guy, so shortly after, I ran as fast as

[00:02:54] I could away from him.

[00:02:58] Two years later, I was sitting outside of my new job and I got a text from a friend

[00:03:03] at my old job at the factory.

[00:03:07] All the text said was, call me.

[00:03:10] So I did.

[00:03:12] My coworker asked me if I had heard what had happened.

[00:03:15] I asked about what?

[00:03:18] Since I genuinely had no clue what she was talking about.

[00:03:22] She replied, CJ.

[00:03:26] It took me a few minutes to realize who CJ was.

[00:03:29] When I finally realized who she was talking about, she elaborated.

[00:03:34] He murdered his child in a hotel.

[00:03:37] They found him on the run with the baby's mother.

[00:03:40] Yes, the mother of the child that was killed.

[00:03:44] The police shot him and they were arrested.

[00:03:47] Later, they were both sentenced.

[00:03:50] The baby's mother received a life sentence and so did he.

[00:03:53] CJ eventually killed himself in jail.

[00:03:57] So CJ, let's not meet in this life or the next.
