[00:00:01] Welcome to Wednesday One-Shots, the series where we share a bonus story with you. This time around, we have a story from a listener named Georgie. I've been listening to your podcasts for about a year now and I love them.
[00:00:26] I never thought I'd have a story until listening to one of the stories on this podcast recently. For background information, I was about 7 years old when this happened. I was at my school assembly and my class and I were setting the assembly room up because
[00:00:41] it was our turn to present what we had been learning to the school. We were all getting into our costumes and lining up on stage. Parents were allowed to come, but mine didn't because of their work schedules.
[00:00:55] I didn't know that they weren't coming so I was looking for them when I noticed a man was watching me. I didn't recognize this man, but he wouldn't stop staring at me. He looked as if he were about 50 years old.
[00:01:11] He had gray hair and a very large build. He could see that I was looking at him and he began to make gestures at me. He was now pointing at me and sliding his finger across his throat, not breaking eye contact with me once. Nobody else noticed him.
[00:01:32] I was now tearing up, frantically looking around for my mom, but I couldn't find her. I went to find my teacher, now bawling my eyes out. I didn't tell her what was happening when I found her.
[00:01:45] I told her that I felt sick and I needed to go home, but she told me that I needed to finish the play before I could go home. Still crying, I walked back over to my spot. The man started pointing at me more aggressively now.
[00:02:01] He gestured that he was going to slit my throat again. I remember I was crying the whole time and I wasn't able to speak any of my parts at all. The teachers told everybody that asked about me that I just had stage fright.
[00:02:17] I remember getting down from the stage and running to my teacher and jumping up into her arms and crying. She was a new teacher and was only about 25 years old, but she was the nicest teacher that I had at the school.
[00:02:31] As I was crying, I remember seeing the man walking towards us. I was watching him like my life depended on it because in my 7 year old mind, I was about to die. He walked straight past me and my teacher and walked over to one of my friends, but
[00:02:51] still he continued to stare at me. He then turned to look at the kid that he approached and hugged him. I didn't know it at that time, but I found out after going to a couple of parties and
[00:03:04] school dances that the man watching me that day was my friend's dad. About a year after the experience, this man died from health complications leaving a wife and two children behind. I felt horrible for them and I went over to their house almost every day.
[00:03:22] I've never told anybody about this experience. I felt as if by writing this, I would be able to move on from the trauma that affected me until I was about 13. So to my friend's dad who was aggressively gesturing to and pointing at a 7 year old
[00:03:39] girl, let's not meet in this world or the next. Thank you Georgie for sharing your story. If you have a story to share, send it to letsnotmeetstories at gmail.com. We'll see you all next week for a full episode of Let's Not Meet. Everybody stay safe.
