[00:00:01] Welcome to Wednesday One Shots where we share a short bonus story with you to help you get

[00:00:17] through the week.

[00:00:18] This time we have a story by a listener that asked to remain anonymous.

[00:00:22] In 2016 my family and I took a camping trip out by a lake.

[00:00:29] My sister and I were 11 at the time, so our entertainment was building a fort out of sticks

[00:00:34] not far from the family camper or the lake.

[00:00:38] Upon entering the fort my mom said that we could sleep in the fort rather than in our

[00:00:42] camper if we wanted to.

[00:00:45] Well this turned into my sister placing a $20 bet to see if we could spend the entire

[00:00:50] night sleeping outside in said fort.

[00:00:54] I thought, why not?

[00:00:56] It was only for a night and what kid doesn't want some extra money?

[00:01:00] I got my camera, some food, and some blankets then headed out to the fort.

[00:01:07] I had to walk through some woods to get to the fort and I couldn't see the lights from

[00:01:12] the camper once I was out there, so I was terrified.

[00:01:16] I called my friend to help calm my nerves while blogging my experience on my GoPro.

[00:01:23] Everything was fine and then my phone died.

[00:01:28] I didn't think much of it, being that it was close to midnight, but I was in the middle

[00:01:33] of making a blog when I heard cats screaming nearby.

[00:01:37] It almost sounded like they were being intentionally hurt.

[00:01:41] This is where things took a strange turn.

[00:01:44] Not long after filming a video of what I was hearing from the cats, my camera died as well.

[00:01:51] I couldn't sleep so I just lied down in the glow of the small lights that hung inside

[00:01:57] the fort.

[00:01:59] Around one in the morning I heard leaves rustling outside.

[00:02:04] The rustling was getting louder and moving towards the fort.

[00:02:08] I was still lying down with my feet pointed at the entrance and my head on the opposite

[00:02:14] side.

[00:02:15] I was able to see the entrance of the fort lying this way.

[00:02:19] I heard shuffling coming from around the right side of the fort, close to my head.

[00:02:25] I was frozen, having no idea what to do.

[00:02:29] Then the shuffling moved towards the entrance of the fort and I couldn't breathe.

[00:02:34] When the rustling stopped, the blanket covering the entrance dropped and so did my heart.

[00:02:41] The shuffling moved closer to my head.

[00:02:43] My heart was beating faster and faster.

[00:02:46] I still didn't know what to do.

[00:02:49] I really thought that this was where I was going to die.

[00:02:52] And right then I looked up and I saw an eye staring down at me through the cracks above.

[00:03:01] I attempted to scream but I was stunned.

[00:03:04] I couldn't even find my voice.

[00:03:08] Accepting my fate, I covered my face with my blanket and I knew that this was it.

[00:03:13] I tried letting out a cry for help again.

[00:03:17] But what felt like an eternity later, a friend who was also camping out there came out to

[00:03:22] check on me.

[00:03:24] I then heard footsteps of whoever was outside of my fort leaving.

[00:03:29] To this day, I still get chills telling this story.

[00:03:33] So to the creepy person eyeing me in my fort by the lake, let's not meet.

[00:03:40] I want to thank that anonymous author for submitting your story.

[00:03:43] If you have a story to share, make sure you send it to letsnotmeetstories at gmail.com.

[00:03:49] We'll see you next week for a full episode of Let's Not Meet.

[00:03:52] Stay safe.
