[00:00:02] Hello all and welcome to Wednesday One-Shots, the series where we present a bonus story every week to help you get through that midweek slump. This week we have The Scariest Eyes submitted by a listener named Alexandra.
[00:00:26] I'm a 19 year old woman and I must say that I've always been a magnet for creeps. My entire life. I have had random men invade my private space, honk at me from their cars and even blatantly watch me or follow me around.
[00:00:43] That being said, I'm no stranger to harassment. But I've never experienced anything as unsettling as this. The other day I decided to meet with one of my friends to catch up and drink.
[00:00:55] We chose to meet at the town square since most of the bars and clubs were there. When I arrived I realized I was early. So I decided to sit on one of the benches and wait while listening to music.
[00:01:09] I was in such a great mood that day so I wasn't as aware of my surroundings as I probably should have been. Maybe that's what drew him in. At first I saw a guy approaching my bench out of the corner of my eye.
[00:01:21] I didn't give it much thought because it was quite a busy area and many people were passing by. I went back to scrolling on my phone because I thought that he would pass by like the others walking by but unfortunately that was not the case.
[00:01:35] In the split second I wasn't paying close attention to him, he started to walk right at me. I felt an overwhelmingly bad vibe from him so I took my earphones out and I looked up to see what was going on.
[00:01:50] It was already too late to remove myself from the situation because the guy, a literal stranger, was standing so close to me that his knees nearly touched mine as he was trying to grab my neck.
[00:02:02] All I could see were his cold, empty eyes as if he were drugged out of his mind or totally insane. It was as if there wasn't a soul behind them and that was the scariest part for me, knowing
[00:02:17] that his actions were unpredictable due to whatever state he was in. He could have easily begun to strangle me if he wanted to, I wouldn't have been able to reach for the pepper spray that I always kept in my bag. My fight or flight instincts kicked in.
[00:02:31] I'm not sure how I was able to do this but I slid to the side and as soon as I was free I stood up and ran across the street. I looked behind me only to see him standing in that same spot, in the same position with
[00:02:46] his arms still reaching out. He then turned his head to look at me. I was panicking so I texted my closest friend about what was happening and sent them my location. A moment later I looked up from my phone but he wasn't there anymore.
[00:03:01] It was like he had vanished into thin air. I was so confused that I just stood there not knowing what to do. Looking back it seems more than likely that he just hid around the corner of the closest building.
[00:03:14] My friend who I was supposed to meet finally came. She had already read my texts but just brushed off the incident and I occupied my mind with her latest drama. Soon enough I was able to relax and enjoy our time together.
[00:03:30] Obviously what happened before was really unpleasant but I wasn't trying to have my day ruined because of some creep. First my friend and I got some drinks. It was really hot that day so we sat on the patio outside of the bar.
[00:03:44] We spent almost 2 hours just chatting and catching up. After that we went to our favorite burger place. It was a really small and not so popular restaurant. Not that many people even knew that it existed. As we finished our meals I saw movement next to the entrance.
[00:04:00] From where I was sitting I was able to see what was going on but my friend could not. I saw the same guy from before pacing around the windows and trying to see inside like he was looking for somebody.
[00:04:12] As soon as I recognized him I gave my friend the look and told her that that was the guy. She asked if I wanted to leave but I refused. I honestly didn't think that he would dare come inside but once again I was wrong.
[00:04:25] What I really didn't expect was that he would walk in with another man. From what I understood the guy outside literally acted as if he were a homeless man to get the other man to buy him free food but once he was inside he wasn't interested in ordering
[00:04:41] food. He was more interested in me. He began to stare at me. The man who walked inside with him tried to encourage him to pick what he wanted to eat but this creepy guy just stood there looking at me with no expression on his face whatsoever.
[00:04:56] Then he mumbled to the man, pick a meal for me and not to go I want to eat here. He then started taking baby steps to get closer to me until he was standing very close to where I was sitting.
[00:05:13] Because of how he was standing he had me completely blocked from getting up from my seat. Shivers ran down my spine. The whole situation was creeping me out so much that even my friend looked concerned.
[00:05:26] She asked me if I wanted to get going but I shook my head no because if I tried to get up right then and there I would definitely brush up against him. That's how close he was to me.
[00:05:36] The man finally ordered food for this guy, told him to enjoy the meal and walked out of the restaurant but the creep didn't bother to thank him or take a seat. He just stood there staring at me.
[00:05:50] The cashier picked up on what was going on and asked the man to move or take a seat. He eventually did so but didn't break eye contact with me. At this point I was so fed up and tired of the situation that as soon as his ass touched
[00:06:05] the chair I stood up and asked my friend to leave. When we did I noticed that she had pepper spray in her hand. That made me want to cry because I was also holding my pepper spray the entire time.
[00:06:19] After the whole incident I was traumatized so I wanted to go home. Once I got home the realization hit. This creep must have been watching me the entire time I was out with my friend to know exactly what specific unpopular and quite pricey restaurant we were at.
[00:06:36] It would have been too much of a coincidence for him to choose this small burger place to dine in. I couldn't get a grip on myself for the next week. I was always paranoid that somebody was following me.
[00:06:47] It's been three weeks and finally I feel comfortable enough to write about the whole thing but to this guy that made my fun day out turn into a week of looking over my shoulder to see if he was following me. Let's not meet.
[00:07:00] Thank you to Alexandra for submitting that story and thank you for listening. As always if you have a story to share send it to letsnotmeetstories at gmail.com. We'll see you all next week for our regular episode of Let's Not Meet. Stay safe.
